THE AUTHORESS of the well-known hymn, "Just as I am" (Charlotte Elliott), died on Friday, the 22nd [Sept. 1871], after a long illness. She was one of a very gifted family, sister of the author [Edward Bishop Elliott] of "Hors Apocalypticae," and of the Rev. Henry Elliott, well-known as a scholar and highly-valued preacher. She was also related on her mother's side to the Venn family. It is not too much to say that no Christian poet ever did more to awaken the souls of sinners and to point them to Christ. Thousands in all parts of the world have received through the words of the hymn, "Just as I am," into their hearts the saving truths of the gospel, and have found there the peace and comfort which can only flow from the truth as it is in Jesus.— The Record.
