Not All The Blood Of Beasts

by Isaac Watts (1674-1748)

Tune: Moreland S.M.

1 NOT all the blood of beasts
On Jewish altars slain
Could give the guilty conscience peace,
Or wash away its stain.

2 But Christ, the heavenly Lamb,
Took all our guilt away,
A sacrifice of nobler name
And richer blood than they.

3 Our souls look back to see
The burden Thou didst bear,
When hanging on the accursed tree,
For all our guilt was there.

4 Believing, we rejoice
To see the curse remove,
And bless the Lamb with cheerful voice,
And sing redeeming love.

Wonderful sustained singing and just the right speed to enjoy the harmonies and absorb the tremendous words.

Thankyou - from Yarnfield 2016, I think. Still a tendency to lengthen the last note of the third line, though (to make it a semibreve instead of a minim)!

The recordings of the singing at Yarnfield are a joy to listen to. Our Continental Brethren know how to sing, and that includes the SATB voice parts.

Here in the UK we all sing the soprano part, perhaps in a lower key for community singing, with the tenors and bases dropping it an octave or two to suit.

Why do the brothers in the meetings here think they must sing as loudly as possible at the top of their voices such that the sisters can hardly be heard? Indeed, our voices should blend into one.

I know that musical quality adds nothing to the worship, but the sound to the ears of those listening to the recordings certainly suffers.
