The Year 1860

English Hearts and English Hands

by Catherine Marsh

A story of gospel work amoung the 'Navies' who built the Crystal Palace and the railways in Sydenham. Bit 'churchy' but interesting stories of the grace of God and nice to read of Beckenham being a 'country village', in the mid 1850s. I found that by the late 1880s it had been taken over and was a prosperous sub-urban town. Still it was better then than is now.
