Charlotte Emily Wainewright McNair (D. Carlota), was born on July 29, 1878, in Surrey, a county located in southeast England. She was the daughter of Lindsay William McNair and Harriet Agnes Turrell. Her parents were married in the Anglican church of St. Nicholas, Brighton, on June 23, 1864.
She studied nursing, and during the First World War, she worked caring for wounded soldiers at Farncombe House, a hospital that opened in October 1917 on Broadway. Desiring to help with missionary work, she decided to come to Brazil as soon as the war ended, disembarking at the port of Rio de Janeiro on December 12, 1919, aboard the ship Avon, accompanied by the McCabe couple and Mr. Harold St. John . Here, she always accompanied her brother, Stuart Edmund McNair , to all the various locations where he resided after his permanent return from Portugal.
When they resided in Carangola-MG, Dona Carlota, as she was called by Brazilians, contributed to the assistance of the Bible Schools promoted there from 1920 onwards.
Later, Mr. McNair sold his house in Carangola to his brother Albert Henry Storrie , and Mrs. Charlotte moved, along with her brother, to Portões, Minas Gerais.
An important aspect of the work there in Portões was the medical consultations provided by Dona Carlota. Often, she would see more than 40 people in a single day. Her consultations were always free.
They also resided in Divisa-ES, Barreiro-RJ, Divisório-MG and Teresópolis-RJ.
In addition to medical service, he dedicated his time to instructing women, teaching the Bible, and providing guidance on health care, childcare and education, etc.
While in Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro, she set up a small sanatorium where she could provide care to the sick. There, she also dedicated herself to publishing articles on raising children in the Evangelical Bulletin, which were later compiled into the book "Leni e seus filhos|"("Leni and Her Children") (currently published by CPAD). Also published were: “Como ensinar obediência às crianças” ("How to Teach Obedience to Children") and “Para a nossa consolação” ("For Our Consolation"), all published by Casa Editora Evangélica.
After Mr. McNair's death in 1959, Mrs. Charlotte returned to England, remaining there until the Lord called her to Himself on March 27, 1965. Mrs. Charlotte never married.
