If I am not mistaken, this is criticized in the Bible Treasury for July 1905 (pp 295-298). The author is not given but I assume it was William Kelly.

That’s right. And what’s in a preposition? T. Neatby by his own admission, gathered for many years with those who “gathered unto the Name of the Lord Jesus,” and then it changed for him.

I think on both sides, Neatby’s reasoning, and that of Kelly (?) in the BT, there is something to muse upon. But also, how often we find in cases like Neatby, Anthony Norris Groves and others, a change of attitude because of some event or dislike of a person, rather than from what is in the Word. Of course we gather “in His Name,” as many Christians profess to do, but is there not also something to consider here – “The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. (Gen 49:10).”
