"Tell Jesus.”

by Charles Stanley

THE very mention of that "Name which is above every name (the Name of Jesus)" strikes a chord in our inmost soul, which pulsates through our whole being. It is one thing to sing—
"Take the Name of Jesus with you;"
it Is so much more to have and to hold HIMSELF! And be sure you keep nothing back from Him.
"Tell Jesus;" and "tell not half the story, but the whole." Don't say to yourself—In your own heart—Who shall roll away the stone?"(Mark xvi: 3).) Tell Jesus of all the difficulties. Do not the troubled worldlings say, "I will place the case in my solicitor's hands"? Well then, let us tell Jesus; for He ls our "Wonderful Counsellor" (Isa. ix: 7; Rev. iii: 18), our "Daysman," and our Advocate (Job. ix: 33; 1 John ii: 1).
"Oh, what peace we often forfeit;
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer."
And tell Him just pointedly of all things as they come. How do we act when we get a fly in our eye, or a splinter in our finger? Do we wait for convenient seasons for relief? Let us then turn to Jesus—the Great Physician—as each need arises, for ourselves and for others. This is the secret of ''praying without ceasing," which is next of kin to "ever giving thanks."
There are a good many religious people about; but few Christians—Christ-indwelt men, Christ-filled women. Christianity is not a string of beliefs and a book of rules; but unity, blessed unity with a person—a man—"the Man Christ Jesus." and yet very God. So few seem to realize the blessed resident indwelling of Christ HIMSELF in the person of the Holy One—the Comforter! Many commence their prayers by talking of coming into His presence, instead of glorifying Him for His gracious presence within. They look for some influence—some pervading, holy influence—to sanctify, instead of being filled with HIMSELF—the Sanctifier. And many seek for wisdom by installments, instead of receiving HIMSELF—our Wisdom—God's unspeakable gift. The very same applies to those who "go mourning, all the day long," because of their little love to Him. They resort to all manner of physicians, and drink of many streams, to make perfect their human love, instead of receiving "Perfect Love"—HIMSELF! to dwell within and fully possess them.
Just whisper through your telephone the following request—
"Lord Jesus Christ, I long to be
So perfectly indwelt by Thee,
That where 'self-love' too long hath been,
Thy presence may be felt and seen.
Possess me, O Thou 'PERFECT LOVE,'
And fit me for Thy home above."
His presence within expels all fear, and is the answer to His own prayer—John xvii: 21-23—"That all may be one; as Thou, Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that Thou hast sent Me. And the glory which Thou gavest Me, I have given them, that they may be one, even as We are one: I in them, and Thou in Me, that they be made perfect in one."
What the Roman Emperor said of the early Christians is as true today as ever: "See how those CHRISTIANS love one another!" for those who come short of this, do not possess the Spirit; and you know it is written: "If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His" (Rom. viii: 9); and "He that dwelleth in love, dwelleth in God, and God in him" (1 John iv: 16).
Are you conscious of coming short? Well, do not stand shivering on the shore, saying:
"Till in the ocean of Thy love,
We lose ourselves in Heaven above."
but now, this instant, step out of self into Him, and you will be saturated with His life, light and love, as a sponge dropped into a full bath, fills with water and that not for its own sake.
