“The keynote of the whole of Tommy's life was his desire to serve his Lord and Master, and his every word and action seemed to say, 'I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ.' We must try not to grieve, and our faith should be increased by such a life of devotion to the Lord Jesus.
“Somewhere in a shell-strewn spot by High Wood, may be seen four humble graves with rough wooden crosses erected over them. They bear the names of four British officers who fell on the same day, and who lie side by side on the field of battle. 2nd Lieut. Arthur Herbert Thompson.
Let us add for the benefit of him who writes and all who read, the simple comment: "Whose faith follow, Remembering the end of his conversation, Jesus Christ, the same yesterday and today and forever."
As Laurence Binyon wrote: “We will remember them”
